Nearly a decade ago, Alexandre and Benoît Gérard, embarked on a transformative project involving a beautiful 1880s country house in desperate need of repair.

The journey was not just about physical restoration; it was a deeply personal and enriching experience. The house evolved into a space filled with new memories and historical depth, enhanced by the visits from friends and family.

"Each visit added to the rich story of the house" he noted.

The Beauty of Classicism

Alexandre’s passion for classicism and his commitment to blending historical appreciation with modern creativity were evident throughout our conversation. He expressed concern over the loss of historical beauty in favor of modernity, noting :

"It’s unfortunate that in Quebec or in Canada in general, we often destroy what little classicism and history we have to create more contemporary homes."

Despite this, Alexandre embraces the challenge of merging old-world charm with contemporary elements. He shared a memorable project for a client in Outremont, where a classic stone house was being modernized. By integrating contemporary elements, mid-century styles, and local art, they achieved a harmonious blend.

"The client-designer relationship is crucial, together, we can create something truly special."
